Porsche has just announced a new Nurburgring lap record for electric cars. The brand’s development driver, Lars Kern, set the track ablaze in a pre-series Taycan with a lap time of 7 min 07.55 seconds.
During his recent outing, Kern improved on his previous-best lap by a whopping 26 seconds, beating the Tesla Model S Plaid in the process. As you may recall, the previous record was set in a Taycan Turbo S Sport in August 2022.
“Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport. Lars’ lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife is sensational, putting the Taycan in the same league as electric hypercars,” says head of the model line, Kevin Giek. “And the impressive thing about it is that over several laps, Lars clocked almost exactly the same time.”
According to Porsche, the Taycan used for the record run was equipped with a roll cage and racing bucket seats. It was 15.5 mph faster than the Taycan Turbo S heading into the Schwedenkreuz.
Porsche will release an onboard video of the complete lap in mid-March.
