BYD has confirmed that its wild hypercar, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, will attempt to break the 500 km/h (310 mph) barrier this November.

The announcement came during the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where BYD vice president Stella Li revealed the brand’s ambitious next step. Last year, the U9 Xtreme hit 496.22 km/h (308.33 mph) at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility, officially making it the fastest production car in the world.

The upcoming November 2026 attempt is expected to take place at the same German track, a 12.3 km high-speed oval perfectly suited to such madness. And the Yangwang U9 Xtreme itself is no ordinary machine.

It’s a heavily upgraded version of the already wild U9, featuring aggressive aerodynamic additions—a towering swan-neck rear wing, deep carbon splitter, and a race-inspired diffuser. Power comes from BYD’s quad-motor e4 platform, now producing a mind-numbing 2,977 hp.
