2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Drag Races a Ford GT

Two fast Fords duel it out on the streets of Florida.

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is a beast. But, it ain’t beast enough to beat the Ford GT.

The Shelby GT500 is more powerful than the GT, but it’s also heavier. The GT also has better traction as the engine is mounted in the middle, as opposed to up front. Brooks from Dragtimes also found out that the GT500 bogs down initially after launch. In contrast, the Ford GT’s launch control is seamless. All these factors add up and the Shelby just can’t match the GT’s straight line performance.

To give you an overview, the new GT500 is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter, V8 engine that delivers 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque. The engine is hooked up to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. On the other hand, the Ford GT packs a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that makes 647 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. That’s a deficit of more than 100 hp, however it weighs just 1,521 kg.

Brooks has also raced his Ford GT against a Dodge Demon in the past. Click here to checkout that video.
