Hennessey Performance unveiled the new Blackbird hypercar at Monterey Car Week. Demand was such that all 71 units were sold out in just 4 hours after its public debut.
According to the company, 60 out of the 71 units were sold even before the car was revealed to the public. As the car was unveiled at The Quail, just a handful of build slots remained, which were allocated within four hours.
Founder and CEO John Hennessey said, “None of us expected such an overwhelmingly positive response. Selling out so fast is testament to the stunning design and our team’s appreciation of what makes hypercar ownership special.”
The Hennessey Blackbird is inspired by the legendary SR-71 Blackbird aircraft. The company says that it was “created for drivers who value emotion, engagement and long-distance usability”. Priced at $2.5 million before taxes, it certainly doesn’t come cheap.
The Blackbird uses a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8, which delivers around 800-850 hp. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission.
