The 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS has lapped the Nurburgring in under 7 min.

Porsche has just confirmed the new 911 GT3 RS’ Nurburgring lap time. It completed a lap of the circuit in 6 min 56.4 seconds. That’s 8.6 seconds slower than the GT2 RS’ lap time. It’s worth mentioning that Dale Lomas was right in pointing out that the car had lapped in under 7 minutes.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS has been spotted at the Nurburgring again. Folks at Bridge to Gantry have been timing the car as it set hot lap after hot lap and it is believed to have clocked a sub-7 min lap. According to Dale Lomas and his trusty stopwatch, the GT3 RS was clocked at 6 min 56 seconds. That’s 9 seconds slower than the 700 hp GT2 RS.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet has also been gunning for Nurburgring glory. The Corvette ZR1 was spotted at the track, however it couldn’t match the pace set by the GT3 RS. The ZR1 registered an unofficial time of 7 min 12 seconds. Still, that’s 7 seconds faster than its predecessor, the C6 Corvette ZR1.

The current production car lap record of the track stands at 6 min 47.3 seconds set by the 911 GT2 RS back in September 2017. That said, the ultimate lap record of 6 min 11.1 seconds set by Stefan Bellof in a Porsche 956 back in 1983 still stands to this day. Porsche is likely to challenge it later this year in their 919 Evo LMP1 race car. Mercedes-AMG will also be attempting to break the lap record with their latest Project One hypercar.
