McLaren is giving collectors a rare opportunity to own a genuine piece of its Formula 1 history, with five race cars heading to the private market. The cars will be sold individually, with specialist dealer Tom Hartley Jnr appointed by McLaren Racing to find buyers. Prices have not been revealed.

The collection spans 32 years and includes two 1991 MP4/6A chassis raced by Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger, a 2012 MP4/27A, the 2021 MCL35M and Lando Norris’s 2023 MCL37A.

That makes for an unusually broad snapshot of McLaren’s modern F1 story, from the early 1990s to the current generation of ground-effect cars. The 2023 machine is also described as the most modern Formula 1 car ever offered for private ownership.

All five cars have remained with McLaren since their final races and will be prepared by the team before being handed to their new owners.

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown says the decision is about putting the cars back into use rather than leaving them hidden away in storage.

For collectors, opportunities like this don’t come around often. Owning a McLaren road car is one thing; owning an actual McLaren F1 racer is something else entirely.
