It’s been 9 years since Elon Musk revealed the prototype Tesla Roadster. Now finally, here’s the next-gen model, and as expected, it’s even more bonkers than the original.
The new Tesla Roadster can literally fly. It uses actual thrusters from SpaceX that allow it to launch off the ground. This capability was demonstrated during the live stream.
Tesla has also developed a fan suction system that pulls the car towards the ground to aid high-speed cornering. It clearly appears to have been inspired by the McMurtry Spéirling. The company claims that the system enables the Roadster to pull 2 Gs during cornering.

Another feature adopted from the hypercar industry is the McLaren W1-style rear wing. The active spoiler sits flush with the bodywork and deploys automatically.

The new Tesla Roadster uses steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire, and throttle-by-wire tech. The onboard thrusters use ultra-high-pressure air stored in 600-litre on-board tanks. We still don’t have details of the electric motors that power the new model, but Tesla says it will do 0-60 mph in 0.8 seconds!

The new Roadster appears to have been designed by the same guy who did the Cybertruck. It has a flat nose with triangular headlights, almost like a Lamborghini. The rear features a slim rectangular fascia with a light bar and a large diffuser housing the SpaceX thrusters. The interior is minimalistic with a yoke-style steering wheel and a large central touchscreen.

The new Tesla Roadster will go into production in 2028.
