According to reports, the next-generation Audi A8 could be built at Porsche’s Leipzig plant in Germany, sharing its underpinnings with the next Panamera.
The arrangement would make sense for both brands, allowing Volkswagen Group to spread development and production costs while keeping two of its luxury marques represented in the full-size performance sedan segment.

It’s not an entirely new idea, either. The Porsche Taycan and Audi E-Tron GT already share their technical foundations, despite having distinct designs and brand identities. A similar approach for the A8 and Panamera could give Audi a way to revive its flagship without starting from scratch.
Production of the next A8 reportedly won’t begin before 2030, while the current model is expected to bow out sometime next year. That could leave Audi without a flagship sedan for around three years, which is kind of significant.
