Porsche has hinted at an exciting future for the 911, with its new strategy calling for “highly emotive 911 derivatives”. That could mean some seriously special cars before the current 992 generation bows out.
The obvious candidate is a new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The current 911 has been around since 2019, and Porsche typically introduces the GT2 RS towards the end of a generation. Test prototypes have already been spotted putting in laps at the Nurburgring, adding further intrigue.

Reports suggest the next GT2 RS could adopt a version of Porsche’s T-Hybrid system used by the GTS and Turbo S. The engine reportedly produced around 1,000 hp during testing, although that figure is unlikely to reach production. A combined output of 750 hp or more appears more realistic.

Porsche has also mentioned “unique GT derivatives and limited special editions”, suggesting these cars could be exceptionally rare.
Whatever arrives, Porsche has confirmed one important detail: future 911s will continue to use combustion engines.
