Audi is exploring some rather unusual ways to make electric cars feel more dramatic, and the German brand’s new patent is like a wish list for adding interesting features to future EVs.
One idea involves deliberately transmitting electric-motor vibrations into the cabin instead of filtering them out. Audi could also reduce sound insulation so occupants hear more of the motor’s natural whine.

The patent gets even more interesting with a simulated neutral mode, allowing the motor to spin while the car remains stationary. Pair that with amplified sound and vibration, and an EV could finally be revved at a standstill.
Audi has also considered adding scents that change with the driving mode, including an “electrosmog” smell inspired by toy trains.

Then there are the truly wild ideas. The car could create sparks underneath, generate visible electrical arcs and even project a warp-speed effect onto the windscreen. Electronically changing body colours could also react to the way the car is being driven.
