Porsche is bringing petrol power back to the Macan. CEO Michael Leiters has confirmed that a combustion-engine version of the popular crossover will return in 2028, several years after the nameplate switched to an electric-only lineup.
The new petrol Macan is expected to sit alongside the existing electric model rather than replace it. Porsche wants to offer customers a choice of powertrains without simply creating two versions chasing the same buyers.

Leiters says the company must also avoid making unnecessary investments in petrol and electric technology within the same segment. That makes the strategy particularly important as Porsche adjusts its plans around changing demand.
The decision also signals that Porsche still sees a role for combustion engines, especially higher up its range. Leiters believes bringing back the petrol Macan will give customers a more balanced choice between gasoline and electric power.
