BMW is preparing to streamline its global lineup as it looks to build a more focused range of cars. The arrival of the new 3 Series marks the start of a broader product strategy that will see the company review its model variants and potentially drop several nameplates.
The German brand says it wants to concentrate on vehicles that offer the strongest long-term returns in individual markets. The 2 Series Active Tourer has already been confirmed as one model on the way out, while other ageing cars could eventually face the same fate.

The company is also increasing its use of AI across development, manufacturing, sales and aftersales. China will be another major focus, with BMW targeting at least 95% local production and development for vehicles sold there by 2030.
At the top end, BMW Alpina is about to become more important. The first model under the standalone Alpina brand is due next year, inspired by the 7 Series and positioned between BMW and Rolls-Royce.
