BMW has revealed the petrol-powered versions of its new 3 Series, but there is one notable omission from the latest European lineup: diesel.
The 2027 BMW 3 Series will be offered with a choice of petrol powertrains, including a turbocharged four-cylinder and a more powerful inline-six. BMW is also keeping the range broad rather than moving entirely towards electric power.
That means buyers in Europe will still have the option of choosing a combustion-engined 3 Series alongside the fully electric i3. However, the familiar diesel option will no longer be part of the European range.
BMW is not abandoning electrified combustion power either. The company has confirmed that a plug-in-hybrid version of the next-generation 3 Series will arrive in Europe in 2027.
Details of the new PHEV system have not yet been announced, but the German brand had previously confirmed that plug-in-hybrid technology would continue with the latest 3 Series family.
