McLaren has filed two interesting new trademarks in the UK and European Union, and both have deep connections to company founder Bruce McLaren.
Filed on September 22, the first trademark is for “Remuera,” the Auckland suburb where Bruce grew up and where his family operated its garage.
The second, “Muriwai,” carries an equally important story. Bruce made his competitive racing debut at the Muriwai Beach hillclimb in 1952, aged just 15. He drove an Austin Ulster prepared in the family garage and later even named his home in England after Muriwai.
Interestingly, the filings come shortly after the company unveiled its new logo, itself inspired by signage from the McLaren family garage.
Together, these moves suggest the company is increasingly looking towards Bruce McLaren’s early years as it evolves its modern identity.
What remains unclear is how the two names will be used. They could potentially appear on future models, special editions or other McLaren products.
