Jaguar Land Rover has announced a recall covering 23,677 vehicles in the US due to an electrical issue that could eventually result in a loss of engine power and exterior lighting.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affected vehicles may suffer a failure of their DC-to-DC converter, which manages voltage between different electrical systems.
If the converter fails, the vehicle can stop charging its 12-volt electrical system. This could trigger a series of faults and ultimately cause a loss of propulsion and hamper exterior lighting.
The recall covers several Jaguar Land Rover models. These include 2019-2024 Range Rover Sport, 2020-2024 Range Rover, Range Rover Evoque, Discovery Sport and Defender models. Certain 2021-2024 Range Rover Velar and Discovery vehicles are also affected.
On the Jaguar side, the recall includes select 2021-2024 E-Pace and F-Pace models.
Owners of affected vehicles are expected to receive recall notices by November 13.
Fortunately, the solution is relatively straightforward. JLR dealers will update the necessary software free of charge, with no major hardware replacement required.
