Seeing a hypercar parked on a California street is hardly unusual, but the McMurtry Speirling PURE is anything but ordinary.
This striking example was spotted casually parked by the roadside, where its unusual shape and compact bodywork quickly attracted attention from passers-by. Several people stopped to admire the car and take pictures.
Priced at $1.15 million, the McMurtry Speirling PURE is a single-seat electric hypercar built primarily for the track. Its electric powertrain produces 1,000 hp, allowing it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 1.55 seconds.
The real party trick, however, is underneath. McMurtry’s fan-based downforce system can generate up to 2,000 kg of downforce from a standstill, giving the car extraordinary levels of grip. The system uses two high-speed fans that can spin at up to 23,000 rpm.
McMurtry says the technology allows drivers to experience up to 3g through corners and under braking. It also gives the Speirling PURE its distinctive jet-like soundtrack.
