Geely has opened pre-sales for its first dedicated off-road SUV in China, and the response has been rather extraordinary. The Galaxy Zhanjian 700 attracted 43,900 pre-orders within its first hour. Prices start at 199,800 yuan, or around $29,400.

The SUV is available in six configurations, with prices rising to 389,800 yuan or $57,300. There is also a limited “Land Ark” edition, restricted to just 700 examples.

Underneath its boxy bodywork is Geely’s Thor EM-T all-wheel-drive AI hybrid system. Buyers can choose between 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged engines, paired with a tri-motor electric setup. Combined output reaches a staggering 1113 hp, while claimed wheel-end torque stands at a whopping 13,920 Nm or 10,266 lb ft.

The Geely Galaxy Zhanjian 700 offers 17 driving modes, including Crab Walk and Waltz Turn, which can reduce the turning radius to just 3.36 metres. It can also tackle water up to 800 mm deep.
