Volkswagen design boss thinks modern cars look too angry

1 Min Read

Volkswagen wants to take some of the anger out of modern car design. Andreas Mindt, the Volkswagen Group’s design chief, believes the industry has gone too far with cars that look increasingly aggressive and intimidating.

Mindt argues that there is little reason for everyday cars to appear threatening. Instead, he wants VW to create vehicles with a friendlier and more approachable character.

Mindt also believes an electric car does not need to look radically different simply to advertise that it is an EV. The goal is to make future models feel more recognisably Volkswagen while giving the brand a warmer personality.

That does not mean every car from the wider Volkswagen Group will become soft and friendly. Mindt acknowledges that brands such as Lamborghini and Cupra need their own personalities, where aggressive styling makes more sense.
