Heavily camouflaged electric Land Rover Defender spotted in the UK

We recently posted that Land Rover is reportedly slowing the development of the electric Defender and has given priority to the Range Rover EV. While that’s happening, interestingly, a heavily camouflaged electric Land Rover Defender has been spotted in the UK.

It was parked among other Land Rover vehicles at Eastnor Castle in the UK. While the company has not officially confirmed the model, the SUV is believed to be the upcoming Defender Sport.

The new model is expected to sit below the full-size Defender and effectively fill the space being left by the Discovery Sport, which is due to end production later this year. However, the Defender Sport is expected to take a more premium approach, while also offering electric power.

The prototype clearly carries Defender-inspired styling, with a boxy shape and what appears to be an externally mounted spare wheel. Its front end and C-pillar, however, look noticeably more streamlined than those of the larger Defender.

The SUV is expected to use JLR’s Electrified Modular Architecture, or EMA. The platform was developed with EVs in mind but will also support conventional hybrids.
