Porsche could use Audi Nuvolari as a base for a new model above the 911

Porsche could be looking beyond the 911 for its next big performance car, and it might not need to start from scratch.

The company is considering models that would sit above its existing two-door sports cars, according to CEO Michael Leiters. One possible route could involve using technology already developed elsewhere within the Volkswagen Group.

The recently revealed Audi Nuvolari is particularly interesting in this context. The supercar shares its architecture with the Lamborghini Temerario, meaning the Group already has a modern mid-engined platform designed for serious performance.

Adapting that hardware for a Porsche could make the development process considerably easier than creating an entirely new architecture. It could also give Porsche a strong starting point for a flagship positioned above the 911.

That said, there is currently no confirmation that Porsche is developing such a car, let alone that it would use the Nuvolari’s platform. More concrete answers could arrive soon; perhaps during Porsche’s Capital Markets Day on October 7.
