High-performance Lexus RX prototype spied at the Nurburgring

Lexus appears to be working on a performance-focused version of the RX SUV. Fresh spy shots from the Nurburgring show a heavily camouflaged prototype that could eventually become an RX Morizo RR.

The test car features wider performance tyres, lightweight Rays wheels and huge Brembo brakes with slotted rotors. Michelin Pilot Sport SUV tyres measure 265/40 at the front and an enormous 295/35 at the rear.

The prototype gets additional front air intakes, apparently housing intercoolers, wider fenders and a prominent dual-exhaust setup. Clearly, this is not simply an RX with a few cosmetic tweaks.

Lexus has yet to reveal what powers the prototype, but an earlier report pointed to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine working with electric motors at both axles. The target was reportedly around 600 hp.

For now, that figure remains unconfirmed. Still, with serious cooling hardware, aggressive rubber and substantial brakes, this RX is giving every indication that Lexus wants to build something genuinely quick.
