Porsche Cars North America CEO Timo Resch has said that the company will continue to sell manual-transmission sports cars for as long as legal and environmental regulations permit.
“You can be assured that we will try to offer manual transmissions as long as we are legally allowed to, and as long as there’s customer demand,” Resch says. “And we see customer demand for the option, manual transmission, also lasting well into the next decade.”
There is a very strong demand for manual transmission in North America, and that’s one of the key reasons to keep the sticks alive. More customers in the region prefer a manual variant of, say, the 911 Carrera T and GT3 than anywhere else globally.
This customer demand led to the recent launch of the manual 911 Carrera S. Available exclusively in North America as both a Coupe and Cabriolet, the new “MT Package” pairs a six-speed manual gearbox with a rear-wheel-drive setup.
