Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has rewritten the record books at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Driven by JR Hildebrand, the all-wheel-drive supercar clocked a blistering 9:30.104 run, comfortably beating the previous production car record of 9:53 – a 23-second margin!

What makes this record even more impressive is how close the race car is to the road-going version. Chevrolet has confirmed that the Corvette ZR1X had a stock exhaust system and was running Michelin Cup 2R tyres.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X is powered by a 5.5-litre V8 engine with a front-mounted electric motor, together producing a staggering 1,250 hp. With an AWD setup, it has a brutal 0–60 mph sprint time of just 1.89 seconds when equipped with the ZTK Performance Package.

In other news, some Corvette ZR1 owners are reporting paint damage near the rear wing of their cars, especially after high-speed track runs exceeding 180 mph.
