De Tomaso Automobili has finally unveiled the production version of the P72 supercar. Revealed in concept form at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the P72 is inspired by the 1965 De Tomaso P70.
The De Tomaso P72 is based on a carbon fibre chassis designed to deliver optimal weight distribution and a low centre of gravity. It is equipped with push-rod suspension and 3-way manually adjustable dampers.
The beating heart of the beast is a hand-assembled 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that delivers 700 hp and 605 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox that has short gear ratios for immediate and responsive in-gear performance.
The P72 is designed to offer an old-school, mechanical driving experience. The exterior looks like a racing car from the 1960s, and the same is true for the interior. There are no digital screens or infotainment. Instead, you are greeted by classy analogue dials and bespoke switchgear with milled aluminium components.
Production of the De Tomaso P72 will be limited to 72 units. The car showcased in these images is the first internal production-spec unit.
