With the production of the Pagani Utopia in full swing, the Italian hypercar maker has now shifted its focus to the open-top version. The first pre-production Utopia Roadster prototype has been spotted testing near the factory.
The test mule of the Utopia Roadster looks identical to the fixed roof version. Only a trained eye would notice the shut lines that give away its true identity. As you can see, the roof on this prototype is actually a separate panel.
Pagani is building 99 coupes and an equal number of roadsters. The automaker plans to begin production of the roadster once most of the coupes are built. Both variants are already sold out.
At the heart of the Pagani Utopia is a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine developed by Mercedes-AMG. It produces 864 hp @ 6000 rpm and 811 lb-ft of torque @ 2800-5900 rpm. The engine can be mated to a 7-speed automated manual transmission. Besides this, Pagani is also offering a proper manual this time around.
