Aston Martin has revealed the DB12 Volante – the “open-top Super Tourer”. The car will be presented at The Quail later this week.
The Aston Martin DB12 made its debut a few months back. At the end of last month, our sources informed us that the DB12 Volante would break cover at Pebble Beach. And they were spot on, yet again.
According to the company, the DB12 Volante was developed in parallel with the coupe. It comes with a folding fabric top that can be lowered or raised in 14 sec and 16 sec, respectively at speeds of up to 31 mph.
Specific changes have been made to the Volante’s underbody. Torsional stiffness is up by almost 5% thanks to structural elements like rear suspension upper mounting points and lateral connections, as well as an engine cross brace; among others.
The DB12 Volante is powered by the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 as the coupe. It delivers 671 hp @ 6000 rpm and 590 lb-ft @ 2750-6000 rpm. The engine is hand-built and features modified cam profiles, optimised compression ratios, larger turbos, and increased cooling to achieve an increase in output of 34% compared with the DB11.
Aston claims the DB12 Volante can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 202 mph.
Braking is provided by cast-iron 400 mm front discs and 360 mm rear discs as standard, with an optional Carbon Ceramic Brake that is said to reduce brake fade and 27 kg of unsprung mass.
