Koenigsegg is a well known sports car manufacturer based out of Sweden. The company makes limited-production vehicles however, sometime in 2000s, the carmaker decided to enter competitive racing. To this end, Koenigsegg made a single CCGT GT1 Competition Coupe to participate in GT1 category. This car is now up for auction.

The Swedish carmaker wanted to see how its offering would fare against the likes of the Aston Martin DC9, Chevrolet Corvette C6 and the Ferrari 550. The track versions of these cars is what Koenigsegg wanted to head up against. Hence, the CCGT. Sadly, the car was never competitively raced due to the changes in the homologation requirements.

The CCGT is nothing but the track version of the CCX. It looks visually quite similar to the road going car, but comes with a racing livery, Michelin slick tires and a large rear wing.

Uniquely, this car makes less power than the production cars. Koenigsegg used a 5.0-liter V8 engine with a maximum power of 600 HP. This was due to the restrictions of the GT1 class. To keep the car on the track, Koenigsegg added a double wishbone suspension, gas-hydraulic shockers and carbon disc brakes with six-piston calipers.

This unique specimen was given to Bard Eker, the compnay’s biggest shareholders. He has kept the car in this immaculate condition since the last 16 years. The car was seen in a few displays, but the six monthly maintenance was religiously followed. The 2007 CCGT GT1 was always stored in temperature controlled and dark areas.

It never saw a GT1 race, but Masters Historic Racing has approved it for competition in the organization’s Endurance Legends Series.

Auction details

Bonhams  has planned the auction to take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will hit the hammer on 14th July 2023. The almost new 16-year old car could go for something in between US$3.8-5.0 million.
