Next Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder will be powered by a naturally-aspirated flat-six engine from the 911 GT3.

Porsche’s entry-level 718 Boxster range is offered with 4-cylinder, turbocharged engines. But, those looking for a more hardcore Boxster are in luck as Porsche is likely to offer the next 718 Boxster Spyder with a 4.0-litre, naturally-aspirated flat-6 from the 911 GT3.

Now, in the GT3, the 4.0-litre, flat-six engine produces 500 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque. The 718 Boxster Spyder is likely to get a de-tuned version. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Customers can opt for a 7-speed PDK as well.

Besides the new powertrain, the new Boxster Spyder will be put on a diet. Like its predecessor, the new model will come with a removable soft top instead of an electric folding roof to save weight.
