2016 Paris Motor Show: Mercedes-AMG GT C, GT Roadster

Mercedes-Benz has revealed two new versions of the AMG GT. The Mercedes-AMG GT C and GT Roadster will be showcased at the 2016 Paris Motor Show later this month. Read on to know more about the latest open-top sports cars from AMG.

Powertrain

Two versions of the convertible will be available at launch. The base AMG GT Roadster is powered by the same 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 that pumps out 469 hp and 464 lb-ft, while the Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster boasts a 547 hp V8 with 501 lb-ft of torque. A revised 7-speed Speed-shift dual-clutch transmission has been introduced on the new model.

Performance

The driver can choose between four driving modes via the Dynamic Select controller: Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Individual. The sportier AMG GT C Roadster gets an additional Race mode. The sprint from 0-60 mph in the base GT Roadster takes 4.0 sec while the AMG GT C completes the sprint in 3.7 sec. Top speed is pegged at 188 mph and 196 mph respectively.

Chassis and aerodynamics

Styling wise, the new Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster range borrows cues from the coupe and the AMG GT R model. Features like the active aero management system developed for the AMG GT R also available on the roadster. Other design elements include a pronounced splitter, air ducts and louvres as well as wider sills. Also, the AMG GT C with more horsepower has a wider rear track and the wide bodykit from the GT R.

To improve torsional strength, AMG has incorporated thicker sill elements, a dashboard support structure, aluminium cross members and fixed roll over bars.

Mercedes-Benz is all set to showcase the new Mercedes-AMG GT C roadster at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. Today, we bring you the first teaser image of the upcoming model.

As was expected, the Mercedes-AMG GT C will not get a metal folding roof, instead it uses a fabric top. It allows engineers to save crucial kilograms and instead bolster the chassis for added stiffness.

As far as the engine is concerned, the AMG GT C roadster will use the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 as the coupe. We can expect the model arrive in multiple engine tunes much like the coupe. Moreover, it is believed that the AMG GT C will be entry-level model in the Mercede-AMG GT C range. That said, the bi-turbo V8 would be no slouch by any means. A more potent version of the drop-top will also be available.

Aesthetically speaking, the new model will share most of its panels with the coupe. The prominent AMG front end will be carried over along with the striking tail lamps at the rear. The interior too will be an exact copy of what we’ve already seen on the hard top.

If you want to know more about the Mercedes-AMG GT C roadster keep watching space.
